What ARE Smileys? |
A Smiley is a face lying at the side smiling. It consists of a sequence of special characters found on every keyboard. Written after a sentence it means: " Don't take this too serious. " or "I'm just poking fun at this." |
What characters? |
The following characters may be used to form a Smiley: : - ) ( [ ; ] | { } > < @ ; . D # + o * X / \ 8 (not a complete list, but ideas which characters might be used) |
Where to use? |
Smileys are used in written text, e.g. e-mails, to express emotions which normally cannot be expressed literally. Therefore they are also known as EMOTICONS. |
